On The Road Again - Heading South March 2, 2011

Well this isn't a Little Guy update but rather our trip south with our 18 ft Fun Finder. It's a lot bigger than  the Little Guy but still small by travel trailer standards. We are headed south towards the warm - not sure whether it will be Texas, Florida or both but as for today we are headed go Grand Casino Hinkley RV Resort which is about an hour north of Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota. We are leaving a day later than planned but we had to have the furnace serviced before we left so that delayed our departure. We won't de-winterize the trailer until 3 or 4 days out this trip until we are sure there will be no freezing temperatures for our water and septic systems. It's a balmy -24C and sunny when we left at 1028 EST. (only an hour and a half later than what we hoped!)

We crossed the border into Minnesota with no problems and continued south. We stopped at Two Harbors, Mn for lunch at Rotten Ronnies (hopefully this won't happen often) and picked up some groceries and dogfood at the Supersave.
It was a short drive today and we arrived at the RV Resort at just after 3PM CST. It had warmed up considerably by this time to -13C! It took about an hour and a half to warm up the inside of the trailer to +20C with the propane furnace. We are using an electric ceramic heater to maintain the temperature as the furnace is a bit on the noisy side in a small trailer. We have Internet and Cable TV and the washroom/shower house is right behind the trailer. There aren't many crazies like us here - about 6 units in total with what appears to be us and another unit in overnight. The rest look like they may be permanent - now that would make for a cold winter! The shuttle bus goe.s by every 20 minutes if we want to go to the Casino but we are staying in tonight. We will be off for points further south tomorrow. There is light snow and possibly rain further south in the forecast.
